Cyrus Ramezani received his Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resources Economics and his M.S. in Financial Economics from University of California at Berkeley. He was a U.S.D.A. National Needs Fellow (1985-1989). He came to Cal Poly in Fall of 1999 as a finance faculty at the Orfalea College of Business. He served as the Chair of the Finance Area (2007-2015) and the head of Agribusiness Department (2015-2018). Prior to Cal Poly he served as a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin (Madison). He has also taught at the University of Cambridge (U.K.), Haas School of Business (U.C. Berkeley), and other institutions. His research is focused in the areas of financial management and strategy, asset valuation (real assets, equity, bond, and options), corporate finance (valuation of intangible assets including patents and trademarks, optimal cash holding strategies, application of Real Option methodology to the valuation of real investment projects), risk management and insurance (valuation of agricultural insurance products, valuation of earthquake insurance and reinsurance contacts), and the application of statistical methods to financial and agribusiness data.
Dr. Ramezani’s teaching spans several areas of finance and agribusiness, at both the undergraduate and graduate level. He has taught courses in risk management,
corporate finance, fixed income securities, investments, options and futures, personal financial planning, and portfolio management. Dr. Ramezani has also served as a consultant to numerous corporations, undertaken several government funded research, and has served as an expert witness in litigation involving consumer products, business contracts and patents.
Dr. Ramezani’s research has been published in academic and practitioner journals, including the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Risk, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Financial Engineering, Annals of Finance, Annals of Financial Economics, Institutional Investor Journal, Journal of Economic Integration, and other outlets. Dr. Ramezani’s research has also been featured in the business press, including Forbes.
